Video of the week: A self-cleaning car prototype

Washing a car can be a chore – and a costly one at that. In response, Nissan has begun tests on innovative paint technology that repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers may never have to clean their car again:

  1. Do you have a source for that ?
At first glance it just looks like they’re applying a NeverWet-like coating. I mean, it’s great but it’s an extra coating anybody can decide to apply, and it’s only an evolution of the coatings that have been on the market for years.

    1. Hello Maxime,

This coating is a super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint currently sold by UltraTech and not yet offered by Nissan as a standard feature despite the fact that they aim at considering it as an after-market option. The source is Nissan Europe.

It is indeed similar to NeverWet concept, but applied to a car body, which is maybe the technical challenge (dosing, large scale industrialization, spraying, …)
